Giving to Decatur First
United Methodist Church
The good works of our church are
made possible by the generous
support of members and friends
of our congregation.
Annual Giving
Every winter Decatur First United Methodist Church conducts an annual giving campaign. During this time we ask all members to make a pledge to the church. These pledged gifts make up the operating fund, which supports the operations of the church and its ministries. All contributions made to Decatur First UMC are tax deductible.
This year, the Decatur First Stewardship Committee took a bold step of faith. For the first time we asked all members to complete a pledge card without including their name. While Decatur First has always ensured that giving amounts are kept strictly confidential, this additional step makes the pledge covenant a commitment between the member and God. The church sends quarterly statements to all contributors so that they can track their giving progress, but only the members will know whether or not they are fulfilling their pledge.
Pledges to the church may be made on an annual, monthly, or weekly basis – whatever the donor prefers. If you have questions about making an annual pledge or your current commitment, please contact Lexie Parker in the Business Office at 404-378-4541 x.22.
Outreach Giving Opportunities
Throughout the year church members have numerous opportunities to give to local, national, and international outreach ministries that are not part of the Decatur First operating fund. Among these are Decatur Cooperative Ministries, Appalachian Service Project, Honduras Outreach, Habitat for Humanity, Wesley Woods Mother’s Day Offering, United Methodist Children’s Home, and many others. In addition, the church publishes an alternative giving guide for members to consider during Advent and Christmas.
Stweardship 2012
Stewardship is managing the assets that are entrusted to us. Recognizing that it is God who created us, gave us time and life, endowed us with talents and abilities, enabled us to be productive, and gave us strength to work and earn a living; we truly worship and acknowledge him as Lord by giving to him. Stewardship then is a matter of the heart, a response and life of faith that gives of self.
“Will You Grow?” Sunday will be November 13 when we will ask you to fill out an estimate of giving card for 2012. Please make every effort to be in worship on November 13 as we celebrate God’s many gifts to us and the privilege to join in his work through our giving.
What if I can not be there?
1. Estimate of Giving Cards will be in the pews for 2 Sundays after Will You Grow Sunday. You can fill one out then and place it in the offering plate.
2. You may drop by the church office during the week and fill out a card.
3. You may go online at www.decaturfirst.org and fill out a card.
Choose the manner most convenient for you. Know that every response counts—regardless of amount—and every person makes a difference!

Chapel Campaign
Our historic 1899 Chapel is hurting. Despite the ongoing repairs and area renovations, the inadequacies, damage from wear and tear, and general deterioration have brought the building to a critical phase. “Bandages” will no longer address the problems. Repair needs begin at the roof and extend to the cracked foundation.
Decatur First UMC needs your help in fitting the Chapel for future ministry, in an environmentally and fiscally-wise manner.
