Libraries

Decatur First UMC’s Libraries

Decatur First UMC has three libraries that provide a variety of reading materials. These collections are excellent resources for both adults and children. The books and other media housed in our libraries offer parishioners opportunities for spiritual, educational, and theological growth. There are works of fiction, non-fiction, Bible study materials, prayer guides, and much more, so please come and discover what our church libraries have to offer.

Frank W. Manning Library
The Frank W. Manning Library is an inviting setting where adults will find hands-on resources for spiritual growth ministries, including teaching and Bible study resources. There are also books offering information on the history and culture of Decatur First UMC and the surrounding community. Check out the online catalog for the Manning Library.

Odille Ousley Children’s Library
The recently revamped Odille Ousley Children’s Library offers a variety of books, most of which are geared toward children ages 2 to 12. The books in this library are fun to read, and are either religious in nature, or include important ethical and moral lessons. Please visit this library on the first floor of the church in Room 110, or follow this link to the online catalog.

Mac & Jesse McCoy Library
The Mac & Jesse McCoy Library is a special collection of books that support adult Bible studies. This library is located on the third floor of the church in room 305. These materials are included in the online catalog for the Manning Library. “McCoy” preceding the Dewey location number indicates that the item will be found in the McCoy collection.

How to Use the Libraries

When are the libraries open?
The libraries are open 9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and on Sunday mornings. Please call the church to ensure that the library you are interested in is not being used for a small group or Bible study.

I'm looking for a specific book; what is the best way to search for it?
The online catalogs are the best way to find a specific book, and may be searched by keyword, author, title and subject.

How long may I borrow a book?
There is not a specific time limit for returning borrowed books. However, we ask borrowers to be mindful of the fact that other people may be interested in the same book, so we ask that you return the borrowed book in a timely manner.

Do I have to be a member of Decatur First UMC to use the libraries?
Everyone is welcome to use the church libraries.
