Leader: Lexie Parker

When: Wednesdays; Feb 10 – March 23; 9:00am - 11:00am

Let’s talk about food... and Jesus! When “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us” He ate and drank – what? How was the food prepared and eaten? By whom and with whom? Where? Why? And since God is in the business of transformation, what exactly happened when Jesus joined the meal?  Can God’s transformation happen now? How?

BIBLE STUDY // THE SALVATION OF DOCTOR WHO BY MATT RAWLE

Leader: Jason Forster

When: Mondays from 6:00pm - 7:00pm starting February 15. (4-week study)

Cost: $15

Location: Decatur First

Pastor and author Matt Rawle is on a mission. He sees Christ all around him—in books, movies, TV shows, rock music—and he wants to share what he sees. As Matt says, "God offers the raw ingredients, and 'culture' is whatever we cook up." In The Salvation of Doctor Who, pastor and author Matt Rawle draws on the long-running TV show and cult favorite Doctor Who to chart the intersection of faith and science. Chapters include “Bigger on the Inside,” “God and Time and God’s Time,” “The Oldest Question in the Universe,” and “The Sonic Screwdriver Is Mightier Than the Sword.”

BIBLE STUDY // JOHN: THE GOSPEL OF LIGHT AND LIFE BY ADAM HAMILTON

Leader: Melinda Mobley

When: Sundays from 5:00pm - 6:00pm starting February 7, 2016

Cost: $15

Location: Decatur First

The Gospel of John is the most deeply spiritual of the four gospels. This writing is filled with rich images and profound truths, but John notes that his aim in writing the gospel is that readers will not only believe in Jesus Christ, but that they “may have life in his name.”  This study will follow the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus through the Gospel of John and understand the context of some of the best-known verses in the New Testament.

BIBLE STUDY // THE SEVEN LAST WORDS BY JAMES MARTIN

STUDY WILL BE ADAPTED BY VARIOUS MEMBERS OF THE DFUMC COMMUNITY

Leader: Each small group will self-facilitate for the duration of the course. (Triplet style)

When: Small groups will determine their own schedules. Ideally, groups would meet for about an hour once a week during Lent (February 10 - March 23) with a final meeting for everyone in the study on Maundy Thursday, March 24 to discuss the experience and insights together prior to the Maundy Thursday Taizé worship service.

Cost: Free.

Location: Small groups will select their own meeting location.

Connect with other members of the church as you reflect on Christ's final words.  Like the triplets from the Spiritual Strategic Journey, each small group (3-5 people) will be given a guide for discussion to be used or ignored as the group sees fit.  If the group meets once per week during Lent, it will have covered all seven of Christ's final phrases, leading up to a sharing time on Maundy Thursday and the Chancel Choir's presentation, with small orchestra, of the Seven Last Words by Theodore Dubois.
