Changes Lives
Becky Vinson
Finds Connections
Across Generations
Through UMW
Becky was interested in United Methodist Women (UMW) and had considered attending a UMW meeting, so three years ago after traveling with a few of the UMW Circle 12 members on the Honduras Mission trip, she accepted their invitation to join them at one of their monthly meetings.
What Becky likes most about UMW is the intergenerational aspect of the group, and she learns a lot from the wisdom and knowledge of the women in her circle. She has discovered that UMW is a great way to get involved in the activities of Decatur First UMC, and cherishes the meaningful relationship that she shares with the women of Circle 12.
Becky encourages other young women to join UMW, to ensure the intergenerational facet of the circles continues.

CHURCH COMMUNITY
Decatur First UMC is a dynamic community with a wide variety of programs, activities and groups that engage our diverse congregation.
Decatur First UMC offers many programs, activities and groups, including:
-
Sunday School: Our fifteen adult Sunday School classes give Sunday morning worshippers a broad range of options for coming together in smaller settings to discuss, learn and enjoy good fellowship.
-
Small Group Studies: Joining one of our small groups is a great way to get to know people at Decatur First UMC on a more personal level while enriching your faith.
-
Support Groups: Sometimes getting through life can be difficult. Decatur First UMC offers several groups that provide help, support and comfort in trying times.
-
Women’s Groups: United Methodist Women is a welcoming community of women who nurture and encourage one another in their spiritual growth, personal leadership, and transformation.
-
Drama: If you're looking for a fun and non-threatening environment where you can share your singing, acting or dramatic talents, Decatur First UMC's Drama group is the place for you!
-
Lay Ministry: In the United Methodist Church, lay ministers are members who volunteer to lead and serve in nearly every role in our local church. If you have a gift for counseling, listening, and reaching out to those who are in pain or distress, Stephen Ministry could be a helpful and rewarding place for you to serve.
