Environmental Action

Now the LORD God had planted a garden...

Environmental Action at DFUMC
Decatur First UMC recognizes its important role as a community of faith in the stewardship of God’s Creation and caring for the local environment. DFUMC supports initiatives that allow the church to lessen any negative environmental impact its operations might have. The Creation Care Committee was formed to provide information, programs, and resources to enable the church and its congregation to address environmental issues.

Organic Gardeners Encouraging Their Crops

The DFUMC Organic Garden
Again this spring the organic garden has been planted and sprinkled with love! At Decatur First UMC we are focused on growing together and building strong connections with each other and the larger community via our garden. The church donates half of its production to charities such as Hagar's House, a homeless shelter in Decatur. Hagar’s House has integrated food from the garden into meals for its residents. The garden includes a wide variety of vegetables and herbs.
