Who to Serve
At Decatur First UMC we are passionate about service and helping others. Our theology compels us to make a difference in the world and to follow the example of Christ by reaching out to the less fortunate. Those we reach out to include many categories of individuals and families in various states of need or crisis. Read below to find out more about the specific individuals and groups served by the outreach activities of our congregation. Outreach to the Elderly
Our care and commitment to those in the twilight of their life is one of the most important ways we show respect for life, and for the linkages that are made as we all pass through each important stage. Meeting the needs of seniors and caring for them is a lesson straight from the Bible, and it is infused throughout our faith. Click on the links below for more information.

Outreach to Individuals & Families
Why not consider putting your faith into action by assisting a family that is not unlike yours, except that they lack their basic daily needs of food, clothing, shelter or safe drinking water? Whether their needs arise out of experiencing a traumatic event, or having suffered a stroke of bad luck, our faithful outreach can put whole families and communities back on the right track, and help them help themselves. Outreach to Persons Struggling with Illness (Sick or Hospitalized)
Fortunately for our congregation and the community at-large, there are excellent care facilities that we can work with to augment and amplify the services they already provide. Persons struggling with illness are on a journey that requires us to accompany them and support them with friendship, understanding, and personal assistance. Outreach to Women in Need
When women are in need and are vulnerable, the whole family is at risk, too. For this reason, Decatur First UMC recognizes the necessity of reaching out to women in need, in distress or in crisis. There are various ways we do this, depending on the needs of the individual woman and her specific situation. Click on the links below for more information.
