Decatur First UMC: A Rich History of Nurturing and Educating Children

The Methodist Church is known for building strong communities for the care, education and nurturing of children and young people, and Decatur First UMC is no exception. We feel blessed and privileged to offer so many opportunities for children of all ages to worship, learn and grow in a healthy, happy and loving Christian environment.

Sunday Mornings for Children
At Decatur First UMC Sunday mornings are for worship, not only for the adults but for their children as well. Because we are so passionate about service, making a difference in the world, reaching out to the less fortunate, and following the example of Christ, we strive to instill these values in our church family. We begin teaching our children these important lessons at a very early age in a way they can understand and emulate.

Weekday Mornings for Children In addition to incorporating very specific programs for children to worship on Sundays, the Decatur First UMC Weekday Children’s Ministries also provides an abundance of opportunities for children to play and grow in a safe, caring and activity-rich church environment. Every Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. there is a playgroup for toddlers and their caregivers that is open to church members and community families. Our large nursery and playground provide a safe place with age-appropriate toys and activities for toddlers to interact and play freely with each other, while mothers, fathers, grandparents and other caregivers can take a moment to catch their breath and talk with each other. Everyone has a wonderful time, and both young and “old” benefit from this weekly break. Please join us! The Children's Morning Out (CMO) program at Decatur First UMC is also a popular choice for children to begin their experience of group play in a loving, Christian atmosphere. CMO offers parents and caregivers a block of free-time, with quality childcare at a reasonable cost. For more details please visit the CMO page. The Decatur First UMC Preschool and Kindergarten has a tremendously long and rich history going back 55 years. The school is certified by the North Georgia United Methodist Preschool Association and recognized as a Methodist School of Excellence. The curriculum prepares children for learning academic skills and includes creative play, language development, music, muscle development and art.
