Having Fun in Faith!
Through participation in Sunday School, social activities, community service and special events, our youth can have a blast together while learning what it means to grow and live their faith in Jesus Christ. The youth ministry at Decatur First UMC is a home for all youth to come together to explore and learn. We offer young people a welcoming place for personal growth that also challenges them to discover what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. The youth programs below are created for our teenage participants, but they also help serve the broader mission of the entire church - to share the gift of Jesus Christ to move hearts and employ hands for the kingdom of God. For more information about getting involved and having fun in faith, please contact Patrick Littleifeld at

Great Activities for You!
Sunday School
Each Sunday morning offers an opportunity to dive into scripture to try to gain an overall perspective of the Bible. Our seven-year plan takes every youth from Genesis to Revelation by the time they graduate from high school. We gather in the Youth Lounge from 9:30 - 9:45 a.m. for refreshments and fellowship, and then break into our age-level classes. Sunday school ends at 10:45 a.m.
United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF)
On Sunday nights our youth come together for fellowship, worship, study and service. The UMYF gatherings give young people a chance to relax and get to know one another in a casual atmosphere that allows them to explore and discuss their faith. The evening starts with supper at 6:00 p.m., followed by an evening program that ends at 8:00 p.m.
Youth Choir
Once a month our youth participate in the Sunday morning Traditional Worship service by leading the congregation with their music and singing. Youth Choir meets on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. in the Music Suite. All youth are welcome and encouraged to attend! No auditions are required.
Wednesday Night HC
HC is a Bible study just for high school students. Students who join HC commit to attending for six weeks at a time. In the past semester, HC has explored the relationship between science and faith as well as homosexuality and the church. This group meets from 7:30 -9:00 p.m. on Wednesdays in the upstairs gym classroom.
Appalachia Service Project
Appalachia Service Project (ASP) is a home repair ministry serving Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee. The mission of ASP is to make homes safer, warmer and drier for the people of Appalachia. Decatur First UMC began its relationship with ASP in 1988 with a team of 9 volunteers.
Here's a video of our June 2010 ASP trip.
