Respect for Human and Civil Rights
The United Methodist Church insists that all persons, regardless of age, gender, marital status, or sexual orientation, are entitled to have their human and civil rights ensured. The UMC affirms all persons as equally valuable in the sight of God and encourages its members to work toward societies in which each person’s value is recognized, maintained, and strengthened.

Accessibility
Decatur First UMC's sanctuary is equipped with wheel chair-accessible seating. Upon entering the church, a Decatur First member will usher you to an accommodating section of the Sanctuary. Accessible parking and wheelchair access to the main building and Sanctuary can be found at the covered portico door on North Candler Street. Accessible parking is also available in the Commerce Street parking lot. When entering the building from the parking lot on Commerce there is elevator access to the right of the entry. The Sanctuary is located on the second floor.
We have a certified American Sign Language interpreter at our 11:00 a.m. Traditional Worship Service each week. Special infrared receivers are available for those needing hearing assistance--please request assistance from an usher or minister. Large print bulletins are also available for Sunday worship services.
What to Expect
Both the traditional worship services and the CAYA service are Methodist-style services, enlivened by a conscious balancing of powerful music and dynamic preaching to enhance the worshiper’s experience. Efforts are made to make new visitors who may be unfamiliar with Methodist practices feel more comfortable and included.
Enter the Sanctuary through either the front doors on E. Ponce de Leon Avenue or through the covered doors on N. Chandler Street for easy access to the Sanctuary. The Chapel faces Sycamore Street, which is a two block walk from the Commerce Drive parking lot. Enter the Chapel from the Sycamore Street entrance.
Communion
The communion table of the United Methodist Church is an open table. You do not have to be a member of the church to partake. The invitation to the table is an invitation to a personal and lasting relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Everyone is welcome at the table, including persons of all ages. Communion is typically served the 1st Sunday of every month.
