Meet
Young Adults

Decatur First UMC is within walking distance from the Decatur Square, two miles from Oakhurst, three miles from Emory/Druid Hills, and seven miles from Georgia State/Atlanta. If you're in the area, in your 20s to 40s, and looking for community, we invite you to be a part of our vibrant young adult ministry.

Young Adults

Decatur First UMC has eleven small meeting groups for adults, three of which are for those in their 20s to 40s: Agape, Journey and Kehillah. We invite you to become a part of our vibrant young adult ministry by participating in one of these small groups.

Agape
The word agape means love. It is a love that values and esteems, is unselfish, and is ready to serve. This Sunday School class lives out this meaning by supporting various ministries of Decatur First UMC, including the Fall Festival, Hagar’s House, and Transitional Housing. Fellowship is important to Agape, and the class strives to hold quarterly socials. (Some socials include children while others are for adults only.)

Location: Main Building, Room 314. (Turn right off the elevator, then head left down the main hallway, and room 314 is at the very end of the hall, on the Commerce Drive side of the building.)

Journey
One of the newest groups at DFUMC, Journey is a discussion-based group that focuses on the ways that current events impact faith and religion, and how they, in turn, impact current events.

Location: Main Building, 3rd floor, directly across from the choir room. (Turn left off the elevator, and the classroom is on the next immediate left. The classroom is on the N. Candler Street side of the building.)

Kehillah (formerly the Young Adult Class)
"Kehillah" is Hebrew for community. Whether you are single, married, or divorced, we invite you to join our community of folks in their 20s and 30s. As a group, we're seeking to deepen our faith and our relationships with one another and the world around us. Put simply, we learn, serve, fellowship and worship together.

Learn: We get together each week to learn about God, faith, and what it means to be a Christian in today's world. Join us Sunday mornings at 9:45am in Room G-6 (see below).

Serve: Lend a helping hand in the church's Organic Garden, which provides food for families in need. We also help with Decatur Cooperative Ministry and Hagar's House.

Fellowship: We field a co-ed softball team with Decatur Parks & Rec and organize various social events such as dinner parties, Braves games, Trivia, and book discussions.

Worship: After our morning class, we worship together at either the Traditional or Come-As-You-Are 11:00 services.

How can I get involved?
The best way to get involved is to visit one of our Sunday morning classes at 9:45, but you're welcome to join us for any of the events listed above. If you'd like to know more before dropping in, check out our Facebook Group to meet new friends and browse pictures from group events. You can also ask to join our Google Group (email listserv).

Where does Kehillah meet?
On Sunday mornings you can find us at 300 Ponce De Leon Avenue in room G-6. The room can be hard to spot, so here are more details:
  • Park in the main lot to the right of "DeKalb Medical" below
  • Enter where the "A" marker is below, which is a covered door on the side of the church
  • Walk in the door a few feet and turn right to enter the gym
  • Once in the gym, our room (G-6) is up the stairs in the back right, literally behind the far basketball goal

For other events, we might be working in the church garden, playing softball at McCoy Park, grabbing a meal at Matador in Oakhurst, or having a dinner party at someone's house.

Still have questions? Contact Laura Perry or Cameron Jones.
