Decatur First UMC has a wide range of opportunities for children
Each choir shares the goal of teaching children the importance of supporting the congregation in worship, while having a great time making music.
You Don't Need to Audition
The children's ensembles of Decatur First UMC are open to anyone who desires to worship God through music. There is no audition.
Cherub Choir
Age PreK–Kindergarten. Directed by Michele Wright. Singers begin to appreciate what it means to sing together. Rehearsals: Wednesday, 5:30-6:00pm, Room 110 Sings in Church: Twice per semester
Angel Choir
Age PreK-Kindergarten. Directed by Janel Byerly and Michele Wright. Singers begin to appreciate what it means to sing together. Rehearsals: Wednesday, 12:30-1:00pm, Room 110 Sings in Church: Twice per semester
Seraph Choir
Age PreK-Kindergarten. Directed by Michele Wright. Singers begin to appreciate what it means to sing together. Rehearsals: Sunday, 3:00-3:30pm, Room 110 Sings in Church: Twice per semester
Asbury Choir
Grades 1-3. Directed by Michele Wright. Singers learn basic music-reading skills and continue enjoying singing together. Rehearsals: Wednesday, 6:00-6:45pm, Room 110 Sings in Church: Monthly
Wesley Choir
Grades 1-3. Directed by Michele Wright. Singers learn basic music-reading skills and continue enjoying singing together. Rehearsals: Sunday, 5:00-5:45pm, Room 110 Sings in Church: Monthly
Jubilate!
Grades 4-6. Directed by Michele Wright. Singers continue learning basic music-reading skills and begin singing in parts. Singers in Jubilate! regularly participate in the worship services. Jubilate! also takes part in a one-day-long music mission each year. Jubilate! prepares singers to sing in youth choir, and sixth graders have the option to rehearse with the youth choir and participate in the annual Youth Music Mission. Rehearsals: Sunday, 4:00-5:00, Rehearsal Hall Sings in Church: Monthly
