Baptisms at Decatur First
Baptism is a special event at Decatur First whether it's the baptism of a child or an adult. Baptism is the sacrament of initiation into the body of Christ, the Church, which joins the new member with Christians everywhere. It is the beginning of a lifelong journey of growth in Christ. The United Methodist Church recognizes any Christian baptism.
Children and Infant Baptism
We are blessed at Decatur First to have lots of babies and children in our congregation. At the time of baptism a covenant is established with the child's family who promise to join with God in raising the child in a Christ like way. At baptism, parents or sponsors make commitments to God's name and establish the child in faith. Parents have a primary responsibility for passing on faith to their children by teaching them to live a life true to the gospel, to accept the guidance of the church, and to worship God and learn from the scriptures.
Adult Baptism
There is no age limit on when a person can be baptized. We encourage all adults who have not been baptized to join God's church, The United Methodist Church and our famliy at Decatur First.
Support From The Members
The congregation of Decatur First pledges with God's help to establish the child of God, whatever their age, in faith and surround them with steadfast love. It is the responsibility of the church to nurture and protect these new members of God's church.
