What to expect when you visit on Sunday

Worship Services

There are two Sunday morning worship services available at Decatur First United Methodist Church. The first is at 8:45 a.m. and the other at 11:00 a.m. Both services are traditional Methodist style services with a conscious attempt to  enliven the experience of worship by balancing the participation of worshippers with powerful music and dynamic preaching. Efforts are made to make the visitor unfamiliar with Methodist practices more comfortable and included.

Enter the sanctuary either via the front doors or through the doors of the portico  on N. Chandler Street for easy access to the sanctuary  For directions to the church, click here

Communion Services

Every Wednesday evening 5:30 p.m. - room 211
Sunday mornings at both services, generally the first Sunday of the month.

The communion table of the United Methodist Church is an open table. You do  not have to be a member of the church to partake. The invitation to the table is an invitation to a personal and lasting relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Everyone is welcomed at the table. This includes persons of any age. Click for more information on Communion.

Nursery and Sunday School for Children

A nursery is provided for infants, toddlers and preschool children (through  kindergarten age) during the 8:45AM Worship Service in Room 106 on the First  Floor. During the 11:00 Worship Service, the nursery remains open for infants  and toddlers; all preschool and kindergarten age children are welcome to remain   in their assigned Sunday school classrooms for Kinderchurch. Children in Worship

A pre-school bulletin and an elementary children's bulletin are available for all children attending the Sunday morning worship services. The 11:00 worship service includes a "Children's Time" for all children. They are invited to come to  the altar rail for a sharing time with the minister and to pray.

Children may attend Children's Church, an informal worship service designed just  for children, that also teaches them the meaning of each portion of the worship  service. Most children begin in the sanctuary with their parents, go forward to the altar rail for the children's moment during the worship service and then exit the sanctuary to attend the children's church. Parents meet up with their children following the worship service on the third floor of the education building. Ffor more information on the Sunday programs for children, click here
