Young Adults
Decatur First UMC is walking distance from the Decatur Square, two miles from Oakhurst, three miles from Emory/Druid Hills, and seven miles from Georgia State/Atlanta. If you're in the area, in your 20s - 30s, and looking for community, we invite you to be a part of our vibrant young adult ministry. Whatever your background, we are a community seeking to deepen our faith and our relationships with one another and the world around us.
Decatur First has ten adult groups, two of which are for young adults. This page is about the Kehillah group. For info on Agape, follow this link.
What Does Kehillah Do?
Kehillah is Hebrew for "community." Put simply, we learn, serve, fellowship, and worship together.
 |
|
| Learn: We get together each week to learn about God, faith, and what it means to be a Christian in today's world. Join us Sunday mornings around 9:45 (Directions). |
|
 |
 |
| Fellowship: In the spring and summer we field a co-ed softball team with Decatur Parks & Rec. Throughout the year we organize various social events such as Trivia nights, cookouts/dinner parties, Braves games, and book discussions. |
Worship: After our morning class, we worship together at either the Traditional or Casual 11:00 services. |

How Do I Get Involved?
The best way to get involved in the Kehillah group is to come to our 9:45 class on Sunday mornings. The beginning of class is laid back -- we get to know any visitors and catch up on how everyone's doing. Coffee is usually involved. Then we get into the lesson for the day, which is discussion style. However, first-time guests are welcome at all of our events; join us in whatever setting you would find most comfortable.
If you'd like to know more about us before dropping in, check out the following webpages:
Where is Kehilla?
On Sunday mornings you can find us at 300 Ponce De Leon Avenue in room G-6. The room can be hard to spot, so here are more details:
- Park in the main lot to the right of "DeKalb Medical" below
- Enter where the "A" marker is below, which is a covered door on the side of the church
- Walk in the door a few feet and turn right to enter the gym
- Once in the gym, our room (G-6) is up the stairs in the back right, literally behind the far basketball goal
For other events, we're in and around Decatur. Depending on the event, we could be at DFUMC working in the garden, at McKoy Park playing/cheering on softball, at Matador's in Oakhurst or Thinking Man's Tavern for a Trivia Night, or hanging out at someone's house for a cookout or book discussion.
