A Season to celebrate our impact in Decatur,
across Georgia and around the world

This Lenten season, we will celebrate our impact as United Methodists in Decatur, across Georgia and
around the world as we join in God's work in the world for justice and mercy. We will take up one offering for all our global United Methodist initiatives and our local North Georgia ministries. Learn more about each ministry below.

 

Decatur First UMC Supports the following Ministries:

 

UNITED METHODIST VOLUNTEERS IN MISSION

Gifts support the work of connecting volunteers with approved mission projects in the southeastern US, domestically, and around the globe.

Decatur Cooperative Ministries

DCM serves and empowers local families to stay in their homes through rental and utility assistance. Hagar’s House offers emergency night shelter and assessment to homeless families with children.

UMCOR - the United Methodist Committee on Relief

The United Methodist Committee on Relief is the world's first responder in disaster relief. Their worldwide ministries provide food, shelter, healthcare, and other essential supplies, along with long-term help in rebuilding.

Community Development Grants

Strengthen United Methodist outreach to communities in the United States and Puerto Rico. Advocate for the oppressed, encourage social justice, and nurture at-risk youth.

Native American Ministries

Equip and empower Native American pastors, congregations, and seminary students to authentically worship and serve Jesus within their Native American context and communities.

Peace With Justice Ministries

The General Board of Church and Society works to advocate for and enact peace and justice ministries in communities throughout the world.

World Communion Scholarships

Provide scholarships for national and international graduate students of color and those in marginalized communities whom God has called to service and learning.

Gift of Hope Scholarships

Provide scholarships and loans for students attending United Methodist-related and other accredited colleges and universities.

DECATUR EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE MINISTRY

DEAM serves more than 250 local families a month, providing critical assistance to ease hunger, prevent utility service disconnection, and purchase life-sustaining prescriptions for qualified residents.

Murphy-Harpst Children’s Center

Murphy-Harpst transforms the lives of abused and neglected children through loving Christian care and personalized treatment programs.

wellroot

Supporting Wellroot enables them to feed, clothe, house, and educate children and teens; to recruit and train new foster parents; and to provide transitional housing and support for homeless families.

Aldersgate Homes

Help persons with developmental disabilities live independent and full lives; Aldersgate Homes sets up new apartments and provides recreational opportunities at Collinswood, a universally accessible retreat facility on Lake Oconee.

Golden Cross Grants

Provide assistance to persons who are experiencing financial difficulty due to excessive medical expenses by giving to the Golden Cross fund, administered by the Conference Health and Welfare Committee.

Housing and Homeless
Council Grants

Your gift supports ministries across the conference that are working to address issues of homelessness and poverty.

Wesley Woods Senior
Living Foundation

Help cover the cost of health care, meals, and wellness programs for low income residents. Wesley Woods serves the health and housing needs of older adults throughout North GA.
